Hot Neptune

A “Hot Neptune” is an exoplanet that is similar in size to Neptune but orbits very close to its host star, resulting in high temperatures. These planets typically have a mass ranging from about 10 to 30 times that of Earth and possess a thick atmosphere, often rich in hydrogen and helium. Due to their close proximity to their star, Hot Neptunes may have surface temperatures that can exceed 800 degrees Fahrenheit (about 427 degrees Celsius), leading to distinct atmospheric dynamics and potentially unique weather patterns. Hot Neptunes are part of a broader category of exoplanets known as “mini-Neptunes” and help scientists understand the diversity of planetary systems beyond our own.
