TESS

TESS stands for the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. It is a space telescope launched by NASA in April 2018, designed to search for exoplanets, which are planets outside our solar system, primarily by observing the transit method. This method involves monitoring star brightness for periodic dips that indicate a planet passing in front of the star, thereby blocking a fraction of the light. TESS has a wide-field view and is capable of surveying vast areas of the sky, focusing primarily on stars relatively close to Earth. Its mission aims to discover thousands of exoplanets, contributing to our understanding of the frequency and characteristics of these celestial bodies, particularly Earth-sized and potentially habitable planets. TESS follows the legacy of the Kepler Space Telescope and aims to provide a rich dataset for further studies in astrophysics and planetary science.
